What Customers Say About Polk Audio PSW505 12-Inch Powered Subwoofer (Single, Black):

Gunfire feels like real gunfire. I'm more of a jazz, "new age," and classical guy. And so on and so on.I'm sold. Instrumental, and largely acoustic, music, not much in the way of electronic and not a whole lot of vocals. And it's just remarkable how REAL these sorts of things come through in movies. The sound from my system is slightly clearer with this on than off, but it's not terribly notable. So, for my musical tastes, this isn't really about music. I've even been in real combat.

What it IS about, is MOVIES. And for acoustical music, there are only some "low-lights" of the music (rather than "highlights," you see) which come through, but except for bass drum and tympani drum hits, I don't really consciously pick up too much. And from a "movie standpoint," this thing is INCREDIBLE.Most movies don't have tremendous bass, of course, throughout. But it's hard for me to imagine what that might be, since this one is virtually PERFECT from my perspective. It's been discontinued, so get it while (and where) you can.

If you're setting up a professional, studio-quality sound system, you might want to get something else, but for the home user, I can't imagine a better solution than this one.My only complaint isn't with the speaker itself, but with the fact that if I'm using it late at night, I know I have to turn it off because my neighbors will be annoyed.I don't really have a lot of "boomy, bassy" music. I can say, the effect from this reminds me of the real thing, far more than it reminds me of any "theater" situation I've been in.I'm using a Pioneer 1019 A/V receiver, feeding into this by the unfiltered input. I've set my crossover to 100Hz. Explosions feel real. The deep rumble as a Star Wars starship flies past, or the feel of explosions in a war movie, for example, are phenomenal. I can only imagine that Polk has an even better version coming soon, to replace this one. In that stuff which I do have which is vocal-heavy (Pink Floyd, Dire Straights, etc) there's still plenty of acoustic music involved and a lot less electronic "noisy" stuff. For vocals, I can't tell if this device improves the sound at all, but that's normal for subwoofers. 12" subwoofers always put 10" or 8" subwoofers to shame in terms of movie-sound-reproduction.

It's mainly action-flicks and sci-fi flicks where a subwoofer really shines through. I've been in the best theaters, and listened (or rather, "experienced") a number of really nice "home theater" setups. And this is the best 12" sub I've had the opportunity to use so far.The fact that I got it so ridiculously cheaply is the most remarkable part. If you can get one, you won't be disappointed.

Upgraded my Sony Subwoofer (100w) from a box system. TV shows and movies sound dramatically better with solid bass notes. The deep and thunderous bass will not disappoint. While the subwoofer is not small the sound more than compensates. At not even 2/3 power this subwoofer will thump your chest and knock things off your walls. Fantastic sound for the money.

After reading the positive reviews on tne polk audio psw 505 subwoofer, I decided to purchased it and WOW, this subwoofer is an awesome audio equitment. I am happy with this purchase, GREAT PRICE, GREAT PRODUCT, FREE SHIPPING plus it arrived early = 5 stars.

Good deep bass but still quick and sharp. Easy to set up and adjust.Make sure you have room for it, I had to rearrange my living room a little, it is a 12" after all.

I bought this because I needed the sub to fill a large area: a great room that includes the family room, eating area and kitchen (approximately 20'x50'). I would have preferred an all black exterior to better match my other speakers. I'm hoping this feature prolongs the life of the sub.

The Infinity sub's amp burned out after about 4 years (leaving it on constantly probably wasn't a good idea in hindsight), so I had to replace it. Good deal for the price and quality, at least so far (I've only had it for 2 1/2 weeks). I previously had a 12 inch Infinity sub that was adequate for the area, but I had to turn it up to max to fill up the area with sound and a modest rumbling when watching action sequences in movies.

I'm running this with some Bose speakers and a Yamaha receiver. This Polk sub provides a lot more power and easily fills up the room without much boominess, and rumbles nicely at only a little bit above the halfway mark on the sub volume and about 1/4 volume on the receiver. A great feature which I hope works well is the "standby" feature, which automatically powers up the sub when it gets a signal but shuts it down in 15 minutes without a signal.

The only thing I don't like about it is the painted silver border (about 1 cm thick) around the cloth grill. I didn't notice this border in the pictures I viewed on the web on various websites.
